You Heard It Here: Life Imitates Art

Two days ago while Danica Patrick was running in first place during the Nationwide Series race in Montreal, someone threw a shoe onto the track. Danica rolled right over it. Imagine the velocity of the shoe when it kicked up under her car? You can guess… it did some damage. She lost a bracket under the car and ended up in 26th place.

Now, imagine what might’ve happened if she or anyone else rolled over that shoe at a different angle? There might have been a serious chain of events, especially with all those cars running so closely together. It makes every race a Dangerous Race.

When I came up with the idea for Dangerous Race, I never really thought that anyone would throw anything onto the track, but the reality is it’s a possibility (as shown on Saturday when this happened to Danica). If you want to check out what happens when a race car goes over oil on the track… check out the first book in the Adrenaline Highs series. Dangerous Race.

Personally, I’m not nearly brave enough to want to race cars for a living. What about you? Are you a daredevil? Do you like to live life on the edge? Do you like high octane fun?

  1. I like speed, but I am not a competitive person at least not with other people. Defintiely competitive with myself. So, have they found the eejit who through the shoe onto the track? Will there be jail time? I hope there’s some consequence to this person’s actions.

    • Hi Maria,
I don’t think they found the person who tossed the shoe, but it really did a number on the car and the consequences could have been enormous if Danica had rolled directly over the shoe or if she’d spun out since she was in front of the pack. There should be consequences to the person responsible, but I doubt they’ll find the culprit. (And if they did, it hasn’t been in the news.) Thanks for stopping in!

  2. That’s awful. People can be so stupid at times. Anyway, I’m glad nobody was hurt.
Me? A daredevil? A speed demon? Hardly. You should see how tight I grip the door handle when my son drives me anywhere. Oh, and I use the imaginary brake pedal all the time. : )

    • Hi Robin,
Yeah, I don’t get people either sometimes. What are they thinking to toss a shoe on the track? LOL. I do the same thing with the break pedal when I’m in the passenger side.

  3. Hi Dee J!

A daredevil, a speed demon? Hmm…professionally, yes. At least I used to be. I am an adrenaline junkie, so when I was a cop and able to drive fast when required, I was a daredevil speed demon. I loved it!

Now, as a writer, I find my shots of adrenaline when a fan writes to say how much they liked my books. That’s pretty darn exciting too!

    • Hi Kathy,
I agree with the shot of adrenaline after receiving a note from a happy reader. And I can totally see you screaming down the boulevard with sirens blaring! Hmm, I wonder if most cops are adrenaline junkies… Thanks for dropping in!
